What a month it’s been.

… or End of August roundup – in which I stray so far off the topic I forget what the topic was.

Wow, what a hectic month. So I haven’t blogged much, but it’s been for valid reasons. Firstly, it’s been a hectic working month and energy’s pretty low when I do have free time. Secondly.. and this is a big one…. DUKE NUKEM FOREVER IS ACTUALLY COMING *gasp*. Third, I’ve transfered my priest (yup, he’s Bloodbane no more) to a new server, thanks to a wonderful woman in my life convincing me to join her.

Oh, that’s another thing…. I’ve met the most amazing girl and fallen in love, madly so.

Ok, back to topic – So my priest is now in a 25man hardcore raiding guild, and needs to gear up asap to match their standards. It’s been a lot of slogging, but he’s starting to look good. I’ve also rolled another DK and will be leveling him (hopefully firther than my previous one. The only limiter at the moment is my ISP, which has been giving me a lot of uphill.

There’s also the small matter of my site being hacked and subsequently being blocked by Google. After quite a bit of work (and a lot of editing .js files) I’ve got a clean bill of health again and can continue blogging. Some pages still have a warning up, but I’ve been assured it’s just cache and will clear up soon.

And then of course there’s the whole Operation Gnomeregan/Battle of Zalazane event that launched today. I was fortunate enough to be able to take part in both events, and without spoiling it for those of you that haven’t done it, Horde’s one is better. We got frogs, trolls, zombies and tiki’s, as well as a god and an awesome catsuit. Alliance has… gnomes.

Many allies in need of irradiation.

New Troll Here!

And in case I haven’t mentioned it before, there’s this little something bout moving 15000 miles to be with my dream girl. More news on that as soon as my passport and stuff get sorted out.

Character Update – August

Going on holiday has slowed me down, not that I’m every fast in doing anything in WoW (Ok, except for missing first 80 warrior on my realm by like an hour or something). So what have I achieved and what do I want to achieve before Cataclysm?

Well, Pindle’s still butting his head against Arthas, and frankly getting tired of his ugly mug. I did however gain Rowan’s Rifle of Silver Bullets at a decent price, which I’m pretty chuffed about. Now I can forget to buy bullets again! I’ve also finally started doing Argent dailies and am now Champion of Undercity.

On my hunter I’ve added another 20 points to my engineering, bringing me to 435. I’m almost ready to make myself a Mechanohog – minus the actual gold to buy the parts of course. My rogue has pretty much stood still due to the fact that when I do alt, I’m spending my time on the new love of my life:

My druid! She’s now a tree! I got to level 51 last night, selected Tree of Life and WOW what a difference! Healing, which was already so easy on my druid, is now like a walk in the park. I find myself jumping around, trying to climb impossible parts of the dungeon walls, basically just screwing around while throwing the occasional HoT at the tank/mage who drew agro. What a joy. Hopefully it’ll stay this way :D

Anyway, goals for before Cataclysm:

  1. Get Keyrah to 80 and geared enough to boomkin her way through to 85.
  2. Get my hunter’s engi to 450 and build Pindle a Mechanohog.
  3. Get some spare gold and consumables for the leveling process.
  4. Finish leveling my second hunter (who will then be race-changed to undead – I’ve always wanted an undead hunter)
  5. Finish up The Seeker on Pindle.
  6. Kill the Lich King :’(
  7. Run all the old raids and instances one last time – I’ll make a list and tick em off eventually. Wanna take some vids of my experiences too.

I just hope I have enough time to do must of these things. Most important to me is getting my druid to 80 and killing all content – something I’ve never done on any previous expansion.

Character Update

So since I’ve been back in WoW I’ve tried to do as much in the little time I’ve got in the evenings. Lessee what I’ve achieved so far:

  • I’ve restructured my guild for more efficient raiding. No more slacking around on Rotface and Festergut. In our first night we managed to oneshot both Putricide and Dreamwalker. We’ve also made good progress on Sindragosa, getting her to about 20% in Phase 3. Not bad for a guild that was still unsure about a guaranteed Rot/Fester kill.
  • My main has gained the On a Boat achievement purely by accident. Also got Exalted with Ashen Verdict finally.
  • I’ve solotanked Gunship (which was HUUUUGE fun) and gained my second piece of T10. Still don’t have 100 randoms though, I’m a damn slow player.
  • My dudu went healing and has reached level 40. Omg it’s actually so much fun as a dudu healer. I throw up a hot or two and loaf in guildchat till it expires. Refresh and loaf some more. Guess my priest is going Shadow again soon.
  • I’ve actually started doing the Argent Tournament dailies. I’m just like a year behind everyone else, nothing serious. I’ve also started selling off all my old Vanilla cloth and items on my auction character and am showing a positive bank balance for once in my life.
  • My rogue is pretty much parked for the meanwhile. He lost a bit of his appeal after the twinky gear ran out and I stopped dominating every dungeon I entered. Now his level 37 abilities are just not enough to keep up with the mages and hunters on AOE.

Not much, but it’s more than I’ve achieved in a long time. Next up I think I’ll continue my Ragnaros-solo mission on my hunter and get my druid to 80 and collect all four sets of gear for her. If you’re on Scarshield Legion or in the same battlegroup, look up Keyrah for a decent healer for your random dungeon :)

Fantasy in World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft is a fantasy role-playing game… a fact that most people seem to have forgotten. To most, it’s not about the character but all about the numbers. Creating a new alt? Would it be more fitting to be a dwarf blacksmithing warrior or a tauren hunter, at one with nature? Nope, it’s all about getting the most out of racial bonuses, not what makes more sense for the role.

When new content gets released it’s a mad dash to the finish line. Gotta get Ruby Sanctum cleared before anyone else, and the side quests and storyline be damned.
I must admit, occasionally I’m the same. If I’ve done the quests before and I just want a priest leveled because my guild needs one, I forget the world I’m questing in and just grind to get to 80.

And then there’s the times that I really enjoy playing the game, where I’m sneaking

Abusing prisoners is RP... Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

around on my rogue in Arathi Highlands and dreaming about the things he will become. The epic adventures he will have as he becomes a great explorer, as he collects the perfect ninja suit, as he stealths through Ironforge and ambushes the alliance in their beds. I dream about his PVP past, and how he came back from the war and is now working toward becoming a scholar, studying at Ravenholdt, exploring the libraries in Scarlet Monastery and finding the hidden books of the mages in Dalaran.

The game becomes it’s own reality, and thats what a fantasy game should do. You immerse yourself so totally into your character that he becomes a small part of you…
Or am I the only one that still gets this feeling?

Oh, and head over to Revive & Rejuvinate to see my first guest contribution!
