Game ideas come from the strangest places

I was buying a pie for lunch and looking for a co-worker who had come with me, when I spotted those little plastic toy soldiers I used to love as a kid. That got me thinking of the scenarios I used to set up for myself, creating mock battles and generally doing what all little kids do. Immediately I thought of how well my childhood scenarios would translate to a fairly simple to write game that would still carry the advantages of having deep strategic depth.

I got to work, laid out the basic mind map and will code on this on the breaks I take from the big project (which I’m currently suffering from coder’s block with anyway). I may even have a pre-alpha (eg, dummy models or no models at all, but with the gameplay framework in place) some time before the end of the year.
