Enter the Heavy

Finally got my T1 Heavy last night! I was feeling pretty sick so I only played 5-6 games, including an incredible round … with the M3 Lee of all tanks! 4 Kills and one ram-kill before a TD tracked me. Once a M3 Lee is tracked it’s all over.

Anyway, after the good rounds I had enough money to finally buy the T1, even though I was considering just leaving it and keeping the credits for when I finally unlock the KV. Impatience got the better of me in the end though, and here she is! 600 Hitpoints of slow-moving terror… until faced with VK’s and KV-3′s of course :p

In other news, I’ve finally defeated the Eye of Cthulu in Terraria, giving me my first Demonite ore. Let the crafting begin! Oh, and I promise to review something new in the next few days.

May’s Tank Update.

So I got a little distracted by Terraria and life in general, but I’ve been progressing a bit in WoT too. It is now confirmed that I’ve given up almost entirely on the US tank line. I’ve diverted my actions to the German Tank Destroyers and the USSR tanks. Currently in my garage is the Russian T-28 (which is, well, crap), the Hetzer (which is awesome!), the M3 Lee (just because after so many battles I’m gonna stick with him till he’s elite) and the T-14. Yup, I went and bought some gold. I supported the devs and got me a moneymaking tanky. I’m considering getting some more and buying the Lowe as well. I’m also pretty close to buying the T1 Heavy, just because I struggled my ass off to get the experience to unlock it. Grinding for the KV with the T-28 looks like it’s going to take a while too :(

I’ve also joined a Clan, as you can probably see from the new link on the top of this page. Task Force Black (-TFB- in-game). So far I’m enjoying the interaction, which was the main reason World of Warcraft kept me hooked for so long. The fact that you can only chat while not in a battle sucks though. They should really implement an in-battle clan chat or something. Add a squad chat to that too while they’re at it. The problem is that you’re almost always in a game, sometimes juggling 3-4 tanks in different battles. Having to type something and then wait for a response before you can go into the next battle is counter-productive.

Back in Terraria-land I’ve kitted myself out with a nice mix of silver and gold armour and broken the first Shadow Orb. I got lucky on the first one and had a meteor falling – pity it was in the middle of corruption though. The Eye of Cthulu has also started spawning and I’ve attempted to slay him once, after crafting my shiny new blue lightsaber :D Sadly this didn’t go too well, Phase 1 went pretty smoothly but Phase 2 is just dealing too much damage for me to mitigate with potions. I’m either going to need stronger potions or get the rest of my golden armour set (which I am trying to do, after creating a new world to scavenge in). I’ve also just found the underworld, and am having it pretty OK against those damn fire imps.

Anyway, this week I should have much more time to properly grind in WoT and Terraria so I’ll keep updating as I go along. And remember: Hetzers gonna Hetz!

Fear the M3 Lee – Not!

I’ve finally upgraded to the M3 Lee. After the hugely fun M2 Medium, this tank is a total disappointment. What the hell were the Americans thinking? I’ve read up about this tank before buying it and the comments all pointed to the fact that this tank is bad. Well, it’s worse than bad. I’ve never experienced such a terrible driving machine. Even the VW Beetle is a better feat of engineering and beauty.

The ghastly M3 Lee, next to two devastating Russian KVs

The tank is slow, ungodly slow for a medium. It’s also built like a barn, with a high profile and a very low turret. This means that you’re exposed long before you can shoot at whatever is coming over that hill. The 75mm cannon, which was effective in the M2 medium, is suddenly underpowered against the higher classes you now face. Thankfully it is more accurate than the M2, which could be likened to a shotgun shooting into a dark room and trying to hit an apple hidden behind a wall.

Then there’s the worst feature: the turret itself. Instead of the turret being mounted on top like EVERY OTHER tank in the game, it’s mounted on the front left. This means that it’s effectively a tank destroyer… or should I say ineffectively. Its high profile and flat frontal armor makes it much more vulnerable than the sloped, low profiles of the TDs, and the gun does not suit sniping at distance much either. Your only option is to hide behind buildings and wait for the enemy to stick its nose around the corner, and then pray that you get him disabled or dead before he can swing his turret around you. Against a heavy this doesn’t work very well, and you end up having to run like mad to hide behind something before he one-shots you with his huge gun. Against a light this doesn’t work either, as it can simply outmaneuver you, get behind you and shoot at your soft ass while you try to swing that ungainly body around to get a second shot off.

Thus you’re left to hang around in the middle and hope that the enemy gets distracted by your allies, giving you a chance to fire off a shot or two before being exposed. Or finding another medium and somehow getting that first shot off true.

If it wasn’t for the T1 Heavy, I would have given up on this monstrosity after the first battle, but I so do want one. I’m also working through the USSR ranks, aiming for a KV at some stage. The devastating effects of that lumbering monster is something I must experience.

Anyway, only another 12000 experience (Much more if I want the other tanks this thing unlocks) and MANY more credits to go to the T1, guess I better start grinding…

Tank Update for May

Just a quick update on the current state of my garage. I’ve sold most of my tanks and am saving for my M3 Lee. In the last 2 nights I’ve made about 80k credits, so I’m almost there. Going is slow with only T2/T3 tanks available, but hopefully that will change soon.

While grinding with my M2 Medium I’ve dabbled in a few other tanks too: I’ve played a Panzerjager I for a few rounds – just enough to get it to Elite and then getting rid of it as fast as possible. I’ve also purchased the Russian (My first one!!) T26 Light Tank and got it to Elite in a mind-blowing 2 rounds! Talk about quick turnaround there, and without using any free XP.

With most of my tanks cleared away, the only ones I’m using to grind money with are my M2 Light, M2 Medium and T57, the 3 tanks that I’ve enjoyed the most so far. In fact, the best round I’ve ever had was with the M2 Medium, in which I scored 4 kills (1shots), 4 hits on other targets,  690XP and 10,266 credits. Not bad for a little T3 tank :)

Tonight (If I have the time) I should get over that 155k mark and get the Lee, then it’s time to start saving for the T1 Heavy! Can’t wait to try out the heavies, and with a T5 tank in my stable the credit farming should go much faster too.
